I mentioned in a previous post, our ship experienced a Fall hurricane in the early 60's heading north in the Gulf Stream. When we were permitted, I went out on deck; it was as if I was on a white ghost ship-- completely covered in ice, top to bottom. The 40' seas were so rough we had to replace the 5" forward gun mount in Boston; and, we were practically on the same course as the WIND and SEA! Now, you tell me how long wind mills, standing in place, can survive such a beating. The enemy of the wise is a committee of the ordinary. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I wouldn't give huge wind turbine blades 10 years in the ocean; five years, with those bi-monthly Nor'easters and a couple of back-to-back hurricane seasons. I wouldn't dispute those possibilities. And flaws developing on 1 blade, out of their 3, takes a unit out of service. Did you follow the earlier postings about Ocean City getting some wind turbines? They're huge. |
