wind & solar [about 20 years.] Have you seen photos of the huge wind turbine blades winding up in landfills...
I'm strictly guessing: I wouldn't give huge wind turbine blades 10 years in the ocean; five years, with those bi-monthly Nor'easters and a couple of back-to-back hurricane seasons. The flotsam hazard to shipping lanes is real. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: In the non-fossil energy field, I love three: Geothermal, Hydro and Nuclear. I also like pumped storage. Even a big greenie like Bill Gates is backing a new version of nuclear. Of the three, nuclear has the best reliability rating. It uses the least land, and avoids the huge scrap piles created by wind and solar. Nuclear plants have about quadruple the life [about 80 years] vs wind & solar [about 20 years.] Have you seen photos of the huge wind turbine blades winding up in landfills, when retired or splitting apart?? Also solar produces similar landfill problems. And the natural gas powered plants are extremely "green" and should remain in the mix for quite a while. Who can predict if carbon capture will succeed for other fuels? In the vehicular field, I'd like either Hydrogen or natural gas powered vehicles above Elec Veh's as the future step. Yet we senior citizens won't be forced out of our gasoline vehicles. PS I've mentioned some of this, previously. |
