For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: These articles are talking about power produced on the large scale, by all the solar of a utility company. When there is excess supply produced by solar they must ship it off to other grids, to neighboring states or in Europe to other countries. Else it will cause damage & blow out the entire grid. At such times when those neighboring utilities will need to undertake generating plant shut down procedures (or incur other costs) those neighboring utilities have agreements whereby California must pay them to take the energy. That economics would be like a gas station paying you to take some gas off its hands, if it had a gushing supply threatening to blow up. Weird. But that's the economics involved here. And a parallel situation in Germany, where that article refers to sending excess of solar energy to Poland, and paying them to take it. Kind of the opposite from the recent blackouts in California, where there was insufficient wind and sunshine. Australia has also suffered from its excessive reliance on wind energy. Dates back to 2016 -- (also some reports this year) Report titled: BACK TO THE DARK AGES AS BLACKOUT HITS S. AUSTRALIA: THE PRICE FOR HEAVY RELIANCE ON RENEWABLE ENERGY Click Here In one word, the problem is intermittency. And its made worse by too great percentage reliance on wind & solar. Unlike power plants the wind & solar can NOT be turned up & down to follow the energy demands. |
