I have found an article where Tesla has put in a mega battery installation in Australia. So your prediction of advanced technology does have a start. Its intended to help Australia's intermittency of wind turbine & solar problems. Photo of world's largest lithium ion battery in Australia, below As I've looked at further sources I've learned this bank of batteries covers only one hour of the their energy load. So it would not carry them thru a whole night of energy outage if both solar and wind are unavailable. Seems its not as beneficial as it first appears. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Batteries have their limitations. Far too small capability for utility companies to use. And there's plenty of limitations & problems for car batteries. Nissan Leaf is suffering problems of deteriorating batteries, cutting range. And there's been financial problems with car battery manufacturers. We've already mentioned the high costs of Prius batteries. And so far there's been no batteries capable of powering large freight carrying trucks. Here's 0ne quote relating to power plants: < "To replace the 440 MW of U.S. generation expected to be retired over the next 25 years would take 29.3 billion solar PV panels and 4.4 million battery modules. . . . The study by two UK professors also mentions problems with wind ( & other green sources) < " Meeting 8% of the U.K.’s real energy needs would require having to build 44,000 offshore wind turbines. Doing this, would fill the entire 2,000 mile U.K. coastline with a strip about 2.5 miles wide. . . . |
