Trillion Trees planting program
A multiple win-win. In addition to the carbon-oxygen exchange, trees provide cooling shade (drive into OP from the highway and notice a 5+ degree drop in the Summer), they are attractive/decorative, when the leaves fall, the give you an opportunity to exercise that you might not have had otherwise, and leaf mulch is a great, organic fertilizer (we've been using in our vegetable garden for years.) I'm sure you can think of others. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I wasn't addressing individuals. If the panels working for you, fine. Hoping your's are long lived. Just addressing the big picture of what can occur from excess reliance on solar & wind, which boils down to what are the govt policies. California blackouts seem to be the canary -- early warning of hazards of future expansions & percentage reliance on solar & wind. Their California energy rates are quite high -- For example, the average (residential) electricity rate, 15.34/kwh in San Francisco is 29.12% greater than the national average rate of 11.88¢/kWh. Berlin is 11.96¢/kWh In Europe, Germany has substantially invested in solar & wind, and its consumers are suffering from very high energy rates. PS The Michael Moore movie is quite critical about energy produced by cutting down & burning large quantities of trees. Its being called by the less descriptive name of biomass. (a subterfuge) You can imagine what that list of drawbacks includes. For example trees absorb CO2 & release oxygen, as you know. On the other hand, the Prez has launched the Trillion Trees planting program in the U.S. Click Here |
