I've not seen Aluminum blades mentioned in any of my research readings. But you perhaps already know that offshore wind power already has the most exorbitant costs of any power source for what energy it produces. Huge steel towers, expensive gears to get generators turning fast enough, large oil resorvoirs needed to lube, oil changes required. Plus the need for standby power sources providing power when the wind is insufficient.
Those heavy costs have killed some projects already. Image Title: Steel Windmill Towers--production emits CO2 And very costly to build & install. A project like Ocean City will need more than 300 such towers, and have over 900 fiberglass turbine blades. And that's just the first phase of the project, with more planned in the future. Rampant industrialization of our tourism and fishing environment. Atrocious !! ![]() |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Is there a reason, besides cost, that they don't make them from aluminum? |
