Here's the issue I have--and note that we are in general agreement in that we both think proof of citizenship must be required, and that non-citizens should not be allowed to vote--but it is not the government's responsibility to ensure that everyone live their life in such a way that they can provide their own next meal, much less pay for researching everyone's citizenship. I see your approach as what I consider very typical--asking the government to take care of everyone from cradle to grave. This is simply not the government's job. When you ask the government to provide a free road to voter ID, you must realize that such a thing cannot just be issued like a bus pass. It MUST involve research to verify one's citizenship. And if someone has no proof of citizenship in order to apply for their voter ID, the government can't be asked to research this problem. Besides opening the door to fraud, a major problem, how can we expect the government to verify who someone is when the individual hasn't sufficient ID to apply for voter ID on their own?
It's NOT ABOUT MONEY. It's about proof of citizenship. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I think I've made my position clear: Non-citizens should not be able to vote, period, Citizens who are living paycheck-to-paycheck (or worse) are not likely to spend the money to obtain proper identification. If voter ID is going to be required (and I think it should be) then the government should provide a free path for anyone who is struggling to to obtain the proper ID. And, any purging of the voter rolls should be done carefully and with documented proof. We ha 60 or so court cases about the 2020 election and no voter fraud was proven. In at least one instance, when asked for evidence, Rudy told the judge, I haven't any. Very embarrassing. |
