Dems and US media should be happy that in the Texas freeze, it was natural gas called on to provide most of the power needs, during the wind turbine failure. A minimal impact fossil fuel. For Germany's similar freeze it was mostly coal taking over. Much higher impact.
Report titled: Germany turns back to coal and natural gas as millions of its solar panels are blanketed in snow and ice Click Here And another: Coal Rescues Germany from Its Renewable Folly Click Here. Quotes “The freezing weather has rendered its 30,000 wind turbines to idleness. It is not just the wind turbines. Solar panels covered with snow are also rendered useless. . . . Instead, the solar and wind units are drawing power from the grid powered mainly by coal to keep their internal workings from freezing up." "The deadly winter is putting a strain on Germany’s Energiewende program and the country has to be rescued by, you guessed it, “dirty” fossil fuels. . . . The Germans have found that dependable, dispatchable coal can work in any weather and is the savior during these cold months." “The guaranteed output of wind energy and photovoltaics [solar] is between zero, two or three percent. So de-facto is zero. . . As Germany moves to shut down its reliable nuclear and coal power plants, the gap between supply and demand will grow dangerously wide." Yet the lesson-learned is very similar. Over reliance on Wind & solar leads to power shortages and blackouts. In the U.S. or elsewhere. Another example occurred in Australia where wind power was blamed for a blackout in 2016 that cut supply to 850,000 homes. |
