Don't make it complicated. Just open a second browser instance and go to the articles images. Use the first browser instance to edit your articles after you make changes to images. Or, make all your changes to article images in the regular gallery area and then go edit your articles.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Ahh.  Okay.  But that means only image gallery images can be edited.
