A couple weeks ago, came the message that our US govt is processing retirements in a Pa underground limestone cave. That operation is entirely manually done on paper by 700 govt workers operating more than 230 feet underground.
Now, less than a month later, there are reports they have developed digital processing of retirements. Headline: OPM says it can now process pensions digitally, as DOGE targets bizarre federal document mine Click Here Sounds very hopeful, that the DOGE efforts will chalk up another gain. Yet my search revealed NO PLANS YET for shutting down the Pa. limestone cave. Wondering if the ball is still not moving down the field. And whether or not the new digital processing will ever(?) in fact be implemented. The bureaucracy has commented saying--closing the mine would damage the local economy. Another source said: fully digitizing all the mine records would be an "incredibly expensive, multi-year, if not decade-long, project." Hmmn Excuses, excuses. |
