Today there's reports that an internet cable serving Taiwan has been cut, and a China ship has been blamed.
Headlines: Taiwan Suspects Chinese Ship Sabotaged Undersea Internet Cable Click Here Taiwan Coast Guard Blames Chinese-Owned Ship For Cutting Undersea Communications Cable Click Here Quote: "Taiwan's coast guard dispatched a vessel to the site and discovered a Hong Kong-owned cargo ship called "SHUNXIN 39" about 7 nautical miles from the undersea cable. A preliminary investigation has since determined the vessel was likely responsible for the damage. Turbulent waves prevented coast guard authorities from boarding the vessel which then headed off to South Korea. A full investigation is being demanded. Similar examples of cable cutting occurred in February 2023, two undersea internet cables were cut running between Taiwan and adjacent Islands, about30 miles off the coast of China, by a Chinese fishing and cargo vessel. And in October 2023, a Hong Kong containership was accused of damaging the Baltic-connector natural-gas pipeline and data cables. After the incident, the suspect ship rapidly left the area, headed toward Russia, evading authorities investigating it. And further instances affecting the German supplies of natural gas lines have involved cutting of undersea supply lines. Seems that vigilance to defend the US security should be maintained & improved. And thus there's reasons to be strengthening security gaps in the Arctic region. Like around Greenland. |
