I agree with your thinking on this--no surprise there, eh. I was just thinking about the Polish issue--obviously they are in a much more dangerous position than the U.S.--we are unlikely to feel a clear and present danger of imminent invasion--but can you imagine our government approving the arming and training of school children to use firearms to protect themselves and others against such a threat? Some people (we know who) would be apoplectic. These same people are raining hold heck about the training and arming teachers to defend against school shootings. Hoplophobia* is a disease.

* Hoplophobia: an "irrational aversion to weapons." It is also used to describe the "fear of firearms" or the "fear of armed citizens." Hoplophobia is listed simply as a phobia in some medical dictionaries as a fear of weapons or firearms.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where:
Oh my God. Instruct school kids how to use firearms? Great idea. Teach proper handling and respect for firearms. A firearm is a tool, taught how to use it and respect it prior to use eliminates fear and misuse. I’ve been handling firearms since I was 9 years old on the farm. Killing rats, groundhogs etc.

Had a rifle and shotgun in a gun rack in my pickup to school. Was no problem back then. And there were no school shootings either. The problem today with shootings isn’t the weapon but the disturbed minds of our youth created by the education system, violent video games and our moral lacking society
