Not 100% sure but I think some Guard units were called up during Korea and Viet Nam as well?
We had some ANG units on base for their two weeks summer training, their uniforms looked like they slept in them, they left a very poor impression to say the least. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: That's true about the Guard--but once they are called up, they can be front line units. This was especially true during WWII, when various Army National Guard units were called up and fought through Europe just like regular Army. |
