For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Wednesday evening TV was loaded with reports about how Gov Tim Walz has been exaggerating his claims about his own military service. And these same stories have been going on line. (just as predicted here earlier) To show a broad series of references, some of these are from the NY Times & NewsWeek, as well as some conservative sources. Headlines: NY Times: Vance attacks Walz’s military record, accusing him of avoiding a tour in Iraq The Hill: Battle begins over Vance and Walz military records Fox: Veteran who served in Tim Walz's battalion addresses stolen valor accusations Walz was accused by Vance: “I wonder, Tim Walz, when were you ever in war?” And Vance continued: “He has not spent a day in a combat zone … I’d be ashamed if I was him and I lied about my military service like he did.” During his years of service, Walz had deployed to Italy in support of U.S. operations against terrorism in Afghanistan. Yet Walz, on occasions while advocating for gun control, has said “We can make sure those weapons of war, that I carried in war, are only carried in war. Videos have been broadcast of Walz saying those underlined quotes. Then there is the situation where Walz took retirement from his National Guard unit, after learning that the unit was being ordered to deploy over to Iraq. Members of that same military unit appeared on TV shows and expressed their disappointment that their leader had retired. Another exaggeration concerned Walz’s military rank, at the time he retired. While Walz was promoted to command sergeant major while in the service, he was dropped back down to master sergeant upon retirement. The Minnesota National Guard told the Laura Ingraham show he retired as a master sergeant. Yet it seems the left sources, when they do carry such stories, will use very gentle language, trying to minimize the impacts. Or even remain silent. Reading a wide variety of sources is essential to stay well informed. |
