I think the image code changes are now complete and hopefully free of any major bugs.
First the past -- image uploads were all limited to a maximum width of 620 pixels. Anything over 620 was reduced by the software to 620. Anything 620 or less in width was left untouched. Now -- image uploads are now limited to a maximum width of 1000 pixels. Anything over 1000 is reduced by the software to 1000. Anything 1000 or less in width was left untouched. When viewing images, they are all still shown at a max width of 620 pixels in the normal page view. However, newly uploaded images that are over 700 pixels in width can be clicked to show an enlarged image of 1000 pixels in width. Advice, stick to max 620 width (or lower) for stuff that doesn't need to be viewed as a large image. Save your images at 1000 pixel width before uploading to produce the best online image. Save your images at the lowest quality that still produces a good image. Saving your images at highest quality setting produces image files that are very large without any visual benefit on a computer screen. I suggest about 75% compression for jpg files saved for the web. For those who want simplicity, just shoot your images with a digital camera and upload. The software here will take care of the rest. |
