Just tested the new upload single image method, works great and the instructions are complete.
Not quite the case when uploading multiple images. The process works great, the instructions need more info. The problem is that when someone hasn't done this before or hasn't done it for a while, they are likely to fill in all the blanks for every image, then start trying to submit them--as opposed to filling in the blanks for one, submitting it, going to the next one, and so on. Even though I've done this a time or two already, I just tried it again and as I wasn't used to the process, I typed out the titles, descriptions, and selected albums for five images first, only to have all the stuff disappear after I submitted the first one. A sentence telling--or reminding --users to fill in the data and submit images one at a time would save some frustration. (Why did I upload five images? I didn't, actually. I uploaded two, but at the next screen there were three additional images waiting for me, uploaded recently by a Firearms member who apparently never completely the process. I knew what the photos were so I just filled in the data for him and submitted them as well. Normal? ) The only other comment I can think of on the two processes--single vs multiple photos--is that they don't look anything alike and seem like they are from two different programs almost. This isn't a problem, it's just not as elegant as it might be. But since this is new, that will probably come about with some tweaking. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Just updated the code. In the image gallery users will new see two links at the top of the page:
On the Upload Image page there is now a choice to upload an image from the user's computer or from the Internet using an image URL. The page includes instructions on how to obtain the image URL for Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and IE. Note that if a user selects a file from their computer AND inputs a image URL, only the one from the computer will be uploaded. Also note, when posting a message you can click on the icon to the right of the film can to bring up a small window for uploading an image. This small window also provides option for uploading from computer or via an image URL on the web. As has always been the case, after the upload is complete in the small window, the user is taken to the image gallery in the small window and can just click on the "Add to Message" link above the new image thumbnail to place the image in the message. |
