For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: After the Bos'n pipe caught our attention, he'd announce "Uniform of the day is OSCAR." As I recall, 'OSCAR' was dungarees; it may have meant Working Blues. Speaking of Unies... I had a Tailored Dress Blues uniform, only wore on Liberty, from a shop in Brooklyn. Get this: They were made of Doeskin with silk lining from neck down to the knees. When the wind blew the back-of-neck flap up, a red Dragon would appear. The shirt sleeves would reveal Blue Sharks when turned up. You dare not wear to inspection!! We kept a special 'regulation unie' always on the ready. I sold the 'Liberty Uniform' for 10-bucks the day I was discharged. |
