For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Where will the blades be manufactured? (for OC.) Favorable news about blades is a bit scarce. In 2021 Portsmouth Va. was announced as the first US based offshore turbine blade facility to be built. And that's for the projects of Dominion Energy offshore 26 miles from Virginia Beach and N Carolina. It was to be developed by a branch of Siemens. Yet in late 2023, Siemens Gamesa scrapped plans to build a facility to manufacture offshore wind blades in Virginia. The Nantucket blades which recently failed were built in Quebec Canada at a GE Plant. GE might build a blade plant in NY state, provided enough project/deals are accomplished. GE Vernova recently scrapped plans to churn out a massive 18-megawatt turbine at a facility in New York. GE Vernova, Siemens Energy and Vestas Wind Systems are the largest turbine and blade manufacturers outside of China, and all three experienced high financial losses in their offshore business last year. Vestas has announced $40 million expansions at two Colorado factories, including expanding its building of blades. These seem coupled to land based turbine projects. NJ factories for blades, nacelles, and towers will be developed according to demand, a spokesperson for the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) said.
