For a former Marine you really don’t know what you are talking about. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: It’s not about Liberal vs. Conservative (although it is completely transparent that is the binary, basic lens through which you choose to view the statement or opinion of anyone who has the temerity to disagree with you about even the most mundane of topics.) But yeah, man… again, thanks for pointing out that hunting exists. I had no idea! Shooting sports and competitions… tell me more, this is my first time hearing about it! I wasn’t bragging. I was, pretty obviously, pointing out the absolutely tone-deaf, reactionary absurdity of your response to a comment about the silliness of a politician’s christmas card (And so bold…!) to a guy who ate, slept, breathed and dreamt weaponry for half a decade, during war, often times in forward combat areas. I mean, of all the people to condescend to about guns… an infantry Marine? Really? Liking guns is fine. I like guns. Owning guns is fine. I own guns. Hunting and competing is fine. Never had any interest myself, but if other people do, hey, cool. You do you. Guns-as-hobby is fine… a little expensive for me, but if I were rich, I could see myself maybe buying a few classics. But there’s a fine line between liking something and fetishizing it, and with guns more than most hobbies, I notice a weird level of fetization. Look no further than this politician’s pandering Christmas card, a lame attempt to feed some obvious red meat to his base. Look no further than your multi-paragraph, flailingly defensive screed. As far as a gun’s main use not being the shooting of another living thing, I’m sorry, but I disagree. There might be other uses, sure, but I’ll bet ya the first guy who invented a gun wasn’t’ doing so to shoot skeet. Guns are primarily meant to shoot animals and people. To believe otherwise is delusory. A for effort, though, trying to “own a lib.” |
