The president is not there to shrug his shoulders and do nothing when he is badly needed. The laws the define emergencies and disasters were not created to prevent leaders from acting they should be there to assist. Whatever the laws may or may not be leaders should damn well help their people when need arises. I would be willing to bet my right arm that if this happened in the 1990’s Bill Clinton would have been zooming himself out to Ohio so fast it woild have made your head spin. As bad as Clinton was with running from the truth in the Monica scandel the man has a strong sense of responsibility for his people. Some of Todays DC look like third world dictators and cannot hold a candle to someone of Clinton’s caliper. For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: The Ohio derailment was not a natural disaster. From the FEMA website: Major Disaster Declarations The President can declare a major disaster for any natural event, including any hurricane, tornado, storm, high water, wind-driven water, tidal wave, tsunami, earthquake, volcanic eruption, landslide, mudslide, snowstorm, or drought, or, regardless of cause, fire, flood, or explosion, that the President determines has caused damage of such severity that it is beyond the combined capabilities of state and local governments to respond. A major disaster declaration provides a wide range of federal assistance programs for individuals and public infrastructure, including funds for both emergency and permanent work. "Ohio Governor Mike DeWine spoke with officials at the White House early this morning to address the need for federal help. As a result of this conversation, the Governor has requested assistance from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health and Emergency Response Team, and the CDC to provide on-the-ground assistance in East Palestine," DeWine's office said in a statement on Thursday."
