Sems the newest animated gifs still don't animate in messages, tho' they show animated in the FF vault:                     Also, all FF vault images newer the "stirring the pot" image at right above, although not animated, still appear with a black bckground.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Actually, I forgot to update then, but it is done now. Let me know if animated images are remaining animated.
