Today--after marking all read yesterday--I saw only new messages.  Haven't checked FF yet but will.  I'll keep your suggestion in mind.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Next time you see this try setting unread to 500. Read a few. Go to home page. Go back to messages. Set unread to 10. Read all 10 then go to home page.
