I've either forgotten how to change a user name or it is still only something you can do. If so, will you change a user name in MEF forum please? From "Eric" to "Eric Tjon A San" I know, foreign name, lotta spaces--if you need, "EricTjonASan" is perfectly fine. Or a space after Eric. Thanks. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: The latest code update requires new joins to enter a first and last name. The database will store three name items -- full name, first name, and last name. The full name, the one displayed on all pages and the name required to login will be first/space/last. This only applies to new joins or to existing users who I edit to provide a first and last name. As far as existing users are concerned, they have only a full name in the database. Their names remain the same and their login remains as is -- thus these code change will be transparent to them, unless I set them to first/last with their knowledge so they know what login name to use after the change. Examples: An existing user with a name of JohnDoe will continue to login in with JohnDoe. If I change his name so he has a first and last name, then he would log in using John Doe. If a new user joins and enters a first name of jaNe and a last name of sMITh, the code will set her first name to Jane, last name to Smith, and her display/login name will be Jane Smith. Note the code automatically sets first letter to capital and others to lower for both first and last name. One benefit is greater exposure on search engines. Those who might use a search engine to find stuff on the web from Mark Freburg are not likely to search on MarkFreburg. Currently I am the only one who can change an existing user name. I'll set some managers names and my own just to make sure there are no unforseen complications. |
