Viewing images from RuthMacGregor
Medieval spinner

Photo From: RuthMacGregor - Album: Spinning and Weaving

Description: This image is from a tapestry in the "Cluny" museum in Paris (properly known as the "Musée National du Moyen Age"). The tapestry is part of a series illustrating scenes from "life at the manor", and the clothing reflects styles from the late Middle Ages. She seems to be spinning flax. Her spindle is at her feet (and you'll notice she has the same kind of helper many modern spinners do!). The long distaff she's using was the constant companion of French spinners, even after wheels became available.
